Exploring the Future of Rail Transportation - Senior Capstone 2021

Future Nostalgia is the name of my senior capstone project exploring a different approach to rail transportation. This capstone studio was looking at what could be the "new normal". I chose to focus my research and response around the future of travel as COVID-19 left the world longing for the trill of a trip again. I saw that travel should not be a uniform experience for everyone. How can we expand the idea of "standard travel". Travel must be more than just sardines in a can. Future Nostalgia is my idea for a high-speed rail system through the midwest that highlights the beauty of the journey. Taking the concept of motion pictures, I designed this experience around the idea of a collection of scenes. Each "scene" or experience caters to different travelers so everyone can find their perfect way to see the midwest.
